Hi. This is Faith. I will start with the best approach. You must consult with BOTH your doctor AND with a boxing trainer who is familiar with your injury.

Since you are 'prone to injury, inflamation(sic) and thereby spasms', I would advise that you work more on light flexibility exercises and additional consultation with a sports injury professional as well as a nutritionist to continue with your rehab.

If you are still 'prone to injury', then you are not 99% yet. :-) Your clean bill of health is only as good as your next spasm. Continue to work out but only with the guidance of a true professional.

With diligence, proper rest, exercise and nutritional guidance, you may be on the verge of a great comeback!

Best wishes and keep on keepin' on.

Hi, Gary. Great article. I have a question:
I'm a really big fan of boxing and enjoy cross-training but have recently stopped boxing due to a serious lower back injury. Not from training but good ole fashioned crappy genetics. I have two bad discs in my lumbar. Not ruptured, but prone to injury, inflamation and thereby spasms which make me bedfast for weeks at a time. I've since recovered to 99% since this last episode and was yesterday given a clean bill of health by my Therapist but I remain hesitant to pick up boxing again due to all the twisting. But a freind of mine seems to think it may help me and not hurt me. What's your opinion of this. I appreciate your input.

I believe that is is right on target. When I compete, I measure at 5% bodyfat. My beautiful wife who is not an athlete is about 22%. I guess she is between good and average on the chart.

But from where I stand she is most excellent!
